Years ago you said
"Essentially I'm a matter of light".
And still today when you lean
on the broad shoulders of sleep
or even when they anchor you
to the sea's drowsy breast
you look for crannies where the blackness
has worn thin and has no resistance,
groping you search for the lance -
the lance destined to pierce your heart
and lay it open to the light.
"Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms which give that event its proper expression. There is nothing in this world that does not have a decisive moment" Cartier-Bresson
"Most people go through life dreading they'll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with their trauma. They've already passed their test in life. They're aristocrats" Diane Arbus
"Thinking is not unifying or making the appearance familiar under the guise of a great principal. Thinking is learning all over again how to see, directing one’s consciousness, making of every image a privileged place" Albert Camus
When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.
Things are what they seem to be, or maybe something else. I use people as unconscous actors in little dramas they don't know they're in.
I hate nothing more than sugary photographs with tricks, poses and effects. So allow me to be honest ?and tell the truth about our age and its people.
